14/11/2008 Reid Furniture consulting with Steinhoff

Reid Furniture has confirmed that it is currently in talks with South African based company Steinhoff International Holdings, in a deal that could make Reid Furniture a major part of the UK upholstery division.

A spokesperson for Reid said: "Reid Furniture looks set to become an integral part of a UK upholstery division, created by Steinhoff, to harness both the Harveys Furnishing and Reid Furniture brands. This will create one of the largest furniture retailers in the sector, the details of which have not yet emerged as the companies are in consultation.

"Alan Marnie CEO of Reid Furniture is likely to head up this division, after taking over as MD of Harveys, while retaining his position at Reid Furniture.”
