High street retail chain Argos has confirmed that its store in the Dumfries Loreburne Centre has closed following the expiry of its lease agreement.

Argos said that staff have been relocated to other Argos stores, including the two other remaining Dumfries outlets, as the group decided not to renew its lease and closed at the end of June.

An Argos spokesperson released a statement to local media, saying: “After a long period of consultation, store colleagues have been provided with alternative employment in neighbouring Argos stores and a smooth transition has been achieved.”

The company, which is part of the Home Retail Group, also revealed that stores in Chichester, Harrogate, Winchester and York have closed.

Both the Argos HB Chichester and Winchester branches, on Barnfield Drive and Eastern Lane respectively, closed on 19 June, while both the Argos Insert locations in Harrogate and York, on Plumpton Park and Island Road respectively, shut up shop earlier this year in April.

All closures are thought to be related to expired lease agreements.
