Multichannel retailer John Lewis has revealed that an employee of its Cheadle Royal store in Stockport has been arrested with the suspicion of stealing stock worth around £9,000.
The employee, who remains unnamed, stole goods – including soft furnishings – to the value of just under £9,000 with the intention to sell them over the Internet.
Following a tip off from the store, Police raided the suspect’s address, uncovering the stolen stock and arrested a man – who has now been released on bail until 18 July 2016 as the investigation continues.
Commenting to local news source, the Manchester Evening News, inspector Neil Cook, said: “We were notified by John Lewis Cheadle after their comprehensive internal investigation into an employee suspected of theft.
“Due to the professional and thorough evidence package handed over to the police, a search warrant was applied for and executed. A large amount of stolen property was recovered. We’ll continue to work together in order to further the investigation.”
