North East bed specialist, The Newbridge Street Bedding Centre in Newcastle has announced two successful fundraising initiatives in aid of two worthy causes.

To raise funds for the North East Air Ambulance Service – a charity close to the company’s heart - fluffy baby toy hedgehogs were made available in store to customers, at £1.99 each, resulting in proceeds of £1,600 for the charity.

The company was also involved with ‘The Bed Appeal’ in association with local radio station Metro and TFM Radio and charity, Cash for Kids.  With 1 in 4 children in the North East living below the poverty line, some lack even the most basic needs, including a bed. Through donations and activities such as bike rides and pyjama days, and with support from suppliers, business associates and the radio station’s listeners, The Newbridge Street Bedding Centre helped to raise £17,500, which allowed them to start sending out single divan beds complete with pillows and duvets.

The company is continuously working with social workers in the local area and new beds are being sent out on a daily basis. Colin Heal (pictured with assistant manager Vicky O’Connor and Cash For Kids mascot Courage the Cat), general manager at the Newbridge Bedding Centre explained: “The Cash for Kids Bed Appeal was such a fantastic way of raising money to help local children in the area; we were delighted to be supporting it. Every child deserves a good night’s sleep and we will all sleep easier knowing we have done our best to help!”
