Cooler weather prompts customers to return to John Lewis as sales bounce back into positive territory, with Beds leading the line.

According to John Lewis’ weekly sales figures to 20 August 2016, total sales returned to growth, up by 1.3% on the year at £72.9m.

Within the categories, Home sales produced a week of steady growth, up by 0.7%. Outdoor Living products saw a ‘massive spike’ in popularity in anticipation of the sunny Bank Holiday weekend forecast for this week, with sales up by 64.6%.

Bed sales also contributed significantly this week, with sales increasing by 30.8% compared with the same week last year.

Within the other categories, Fashion sales were up 1.2%, whilst Electrical and Home Technology saw sales rise 2% on the year.

Christine Kasoulis, buying director, Home, John Lewis, said: “In a week that once again saw the weather dictate the shape of trade, John Lewis sales were +1.3% on the year, with the cooler weather towards the end of the week prompting customers to return to the shops.”
