Furniture and homewares retailer Cargo has revealed that its website is no longer active and that its Barnstaple store will remain open as a ‘Harveys’ clearance outlet.
The Cargo Clearance Outlet, which will remain under the Cargo brand, sells discontinued furniture and is part of the Steinhoff International group – which also owns Harveys and Bensons for Beds.
Earlier this year, Cargo confirmed that all its 41 stores would close by the end of January 2016 and would remain trading solely online. However, with the recent development indicating that Cargo homeware products are no longer available online, it appears that an outlet store dedicated to furniture is an option moving forward.
Commenting to local press, Kieran Kidd, manager of the Barnstaple store, said: “Cargo has closed as a homeware store and website, although we are still selling the discontinued stock. The store will still be branded as Cargo, but we will have furniture coming in to replace the homeware.
“Essentially we are a Harvey’s clearance store. We are happy to be keeping the shop open here in Barnstaple so we can continue to be a part the community for many years to come.”
