A new purpose-built furniture shop has opened in Haswell following a £50,000 investment.

Charity organisation, the Lisa Dixon Centre – which supports the in integration and social development of people with learning disabilities under the name Haswell and District Mencap, has launched its first furniture store, FurniSHED, earlier this month.

Backed by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, the investment enabled the store to relocate following its previous sites facility suffering from structural damage.

Commenting to the Northern Echo, founder Jane Dixon said: “I was so pleased when we secured the funding. The furniture store is a great asset to the local community and it makes a huge difference to the charity, allowing us to continue and extend the services that we offer.”
