Independent carpet retailer Wilsons Furnishers has reported an increase in sales, while seeing profit more than doubling, as continued investment and control of overheads pays dividends.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2015, total sales rose by 22.2% to £13.2m from £10.8m in 2014, with gross profit also experiencing an uptick of 33.3% to £4.8m from £3.6m.

Operating profit registered a significant growth of 94.1% to £998,932 from £514,172 against the previous year, with overall profit for the year at £771,073, more than double its recorded profit of £386,661 last year, a growth of 99.7%.

Commenting within its report, Wilsons said: “The directors are pleased to report that the company continues to grow through continuing investment in new retail outlets and satisfactory control of overheads to ensure pre-tax profitability.”

Wilsons, which has 13 stores across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, has been established since 1968 from its Rotherham headquarters.
