Independent homewares department store group Dawson’s has reported a rise in turnover for a sixth successive year, with revenues surpassing £20m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2015, total sales rose by 23% to £22.8m from £18.5m in 2014. Gross profit followed suit, up by 12.1% to £4.6m from £4.1m last year.

Dawson’s indicated that increased administrative expenses by 20.6% to £3.5m hindered its operating profit, which experienced a slight fall by 31.2%, down to £1.1m from £1.6m.

Pre-tax profit for the year resulted in £1.1m, marginally down from £1.5m recorded in 2014.

Dawson’s, which has been established for over 30 years, said that its internet business had generated strong sales, with further developments planned.

With stores based in Clitheroe and Skipton, Dawson’s also has seven operational websites across different categories, including – which focuses on bedding products, and – which specialises in outdoor furniture from the Hartman and Kettler ranges.
