FIRA has confirmed that a new revision of the standard for office desks, EN 527-2 Office furniture, work tables, desks and mechanical safety requirements, has been approved at Formal Vote stage.
The new standard is expected to be published within the next six months, with the current 2002 version to be withdrawn.
It is also expected that the test method standard, BS EN 527-2: 2003 Office furniture, determines methods of testing of the stability and the mechanical strength of the structure, will be withdrawn.
The main changes within the standard are updated references to the test method standard BS EN 1730: 2012 and the introduction of a durability test for height adjustable desking.
FIRA confirmed it now has access to the draft standard and can now assess products against this new standard.
