A former employee of contract office fit-out specialist BFM Install has been found guilty of fraud after buying £37,000 worth of goods for herself.
Emily Brookes, who was the Bromsgrove-based company’s furniture buyer, pleaded guilty to the charge of fraud before Worcester Crown Court, in which a total sum of £37,791 was taken out of the business after an investigation into the missing funds was launched.
The court heard that Ms Brookes was under pressure from a former partner to get the money to support a drug addiction, while due to the financial difficulties the firm experienced, one of its directors had not received their retirement package.
The court ordered Ms Brookes to a sentence of 12 months suspended for 12 months with 200 hours of community service. The court also ordered that the funds are to be fully repaid when possible to do so.
