A major new retail park is being planned for Basingstoke, with four furniture retailers agreeing to take a unit on the proposed site.
The St. Michael’s Retail Park, which is based at the former Smith Industries site off The Harrow Way on Winchester Road, has seen brands Tapi Carpets, Oak Furnitureland, Furniture Village and Sofology all named as potential stores if the development went ahead.
The developer bringing the plans forward is Area Estates – a partnership between property developers Fintry Estates and Pears Property, who have not disclosed the sum of investment required for the project.
Area Estates said within the proposal: “We have already secured retailers for over 60% of the 11 proposed units in St. Michael’s Retail Park. These include a number of completely new retailers for the Basingstoke area.
“These stores are all new to Basingstoke and along with nearby stores such as Homebase and B&Q will help create a hub for home improvements.”
The plans state that around 300 jobs would be created, alongside other construction roles whilst the park is being built, as well as offering a variety of unit sizes from 1,800sq ft to 18,000sq ft premises.
Area Estates have now officially launched the proposals for feedback ready for a September submission to the Basingstoke Council, with a view of approval aimed for December this year.
If all goes to plan, the project build should commence in early 2017, with an opening target of December that year.
