Mirfield-based bedding specialist, John Cotton Group, has revealed the countdown to its charity bike ride kicks off this week.

The 100-day countdown begins on 2 June 2016 as the team prepare for a 761 mile bike ride from Poland to Mirfield to help raise money group’s chosen charities, with £100,000 the target.

As part of its centenary celebration year, the bike ride team, which consists of Alan Bodell, Dave McDanielson, David Page, Daniel Hickling, Tim Nellis, Marcin Berny and Edyta Paxton, will set off on 9 September 2016 and will take around one week to complete.

David Page, sales and marketing director at John Cotton, said: “We’ve had two group rides so far, one of 50 miles and one of 75 miles. Most of us have done a ride of 100 miles or more and we’re now cycling a few consecutive days to see how that feels.

“We’re mostly training on our own and coming together once a month for a long ride, increasing in distance each time. The next group ride will be a long hilly ride of about 60 miles.”

Tour de France stage winner, Brian Robinson, will be at the finish line to welcome home and congratulate the team on 16 September 2016.

John Cotton is supporting its chosen charities for the year, which include: Macmillan, Kirkwood Hospice, Forget Me Not, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.
