Heritage furniture retail business John Young Furnishings has revealed it has grown its export sales arm with its first order from South Korea.

The Keswick-based family owned company, which marked its 125th anniversary last year, indicated that the favourable exchange rate and the reputation Britain has with quality furniture were the driving factors with the overseas sales increase.

The company also stated that fans of Beatrix Potter also contributed the recent success as shop manager, Elizabeth Weightman explained: “The 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter is a real boost for Cumbria tourism and retail at a time when the county needs it most, so we’re pleased to see our Beatrix Potter tapestry enticing visitors into the shop.

“Our South Korean customers are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their order which will create a corner of England in their home. Most overseas visitors think we wouldn’t be able to send goods abroad, so they’re pleasantly surprised when we tell them we can.”

John Young Furnishings has been established since 1890, which has seen the family firm trade over four generations.
