Furniture manufacturer Warren Hughes Furniture Makers suffered severe damage after a huge fire erupted on its site last week.

Taking place on 9 September at around 11:23am, the fire engulfed three – out of the six units on the Tiverton Business Park at Ormidale Square in Devon, with the furniture property one of them seriously damaged by the fire.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene, which was attended by eight fire appliances from Tiverton, Cullompton, Witheridge, South Molton, Taunton, Middlemoor and two from Wellington.

Around 50 firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to extinguish the blaze as six main jets were used along with an aerial ladder platform to tackle the fire. One fire engine stayed onsite at 7am the following day to continue to damp down the remaining hotspots.

A statement from the fire service said: “It has been confirmed that this fire was accidental involving a commercial building measuring 100m by 40m but split in to three units. There was considerable damage to the property from fire, heat and water.”

Warren Hughes Furniture Makers currently employs 15 staff and confirmed everyone got out safely that was on site.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
