The gruelling 450 mile bike ride to the French wine capital takes place from 11 September, with the expected finish date on 16 September – meaning that they will cycle around 78 miles a day.

So far the overall total raised on the Furniture Makers’ JustGiving page is over £11,000, almost at its target of £15,000, whilst Nicholas has launched his own JustGiving page, which has currently raised over £500.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Nicholas said: “I’m looking forward to the bike ride enormously. I have never done anything like this before, so it is a little daunting, but it is great to step out of your comfort zone once in a while to see what you are really capable of.

“It is hugely motivating to think what a great cause it is for – encouraging young talent and providing people with what they need order in to have a successful career within the furnishings industry.”

Sponsoring the event is Axminster Tools & Machinery, B&Q, Blum, Burbidge Kitchens, CD UK, Cabinet Maker, Designer Contracts, Ercol, Furniture Village, KI, Knoll, Lectra, Silentnight and Tangent Furniture.

Ben Burbidge, master of The Furniture Makers’ Company said: “We hope to be waved off from the City of London by Christine Rigden, one of the Sheriffs of London, and pedal into Bordeaux to a civic reception in the wine-growing capital of France, having completed an incredible journey.”
