A managing director of office furniture firm Interoffice has been found guilty of assault after an altercation with a London taxi driver.

Ealing Magistrates Court heard that Simon Rubel Lo Gatto, owner and European managing director of the Italian luxury office furniture company - situated on Rochester Row in London, physically assaulted Nakalingam Koneswaran during a minicab journey from Heathrow Airport on 30 November 2015.

The court heard that Mr Rubel punched Mr Koneswaran, leaving the victim with a black eye, as well as threatening to repeat the action if he stopped the car.

After a short trial, Ealing Magistrates found Mr Rubel guilty of assault and was sentenced to a 12 month community order, including 80 hours of community service, as well as being order to pay £100 in compensation to the victim alongside a £60 victim surcharge and £620 in court fees.

According to the Evening Standard, despite the verdict, Mr Rubel continues to deny punching the driver, with his defence indicating that he plans to lodge an appeal after not accepting the findings of the court.
