Fewer retail outlets reduced costs and revenue, although contributed to a boost in profit for discount Welsh retailer What! Stores.
According to the company’s latest accounts for the year ended 30 June 2015, total sales experienced a successive fall, down by 9.4% to £8.6m from £9.5m in 2014.
Lower costs saw operating profit grow by 21% to £247,018 from £204,201, while overall profit for the year resulted in £165,813, 22.2% up from its profit of £135,552 recorded last year.
Commenting within its strategic report, the company said: “The reduction in the number of stores has led to lower establishment costs and we have also benefitted from a reduction in the maintenance of existing outlets.”
What! Stores confirmed plans to open a new store in Wells, Somerset, next month.
