BHS has confirmed that it plans to relaunch as an online only retailer this week following the sale of its online and overseas operations to the Al Mana Group three months ago.
Since the acquisition of BHS.com from the Al Mana Group in June, the Doha-based firm, which represents brands including Zara and Mango, formed BHS International (UK) Limited, with the view to bring back the British brand following its demise earlier this year.
Officially launching on 29 September 2016, BHS.com will focus on a smaller range of products, which include new kitchen and dining ware ranges, as well as pushing its ‘best-sellers’ from its lighting and home furnishings collections.
Headquartered in London, employing 84 staff, the newco said it had retained the ‘vast majority’ of workers from the old platform, including key figures behind the international and online success BHS had whilst going into administration.
David Anderson remains managing director of BHS International, along with Sara Bradley as buying director and Dave West as head of creative. BHS International confirmed it plans to recruit an executive at a later date to run UK online operation.
The new online allows customers to log on to the website with one device such as their mobile phone, and continue their shopping experience on another such as a laptop or tablet.
David Anderson, managing director, BHS International, said: “We are thrilled to be relaunching this iconic brand back into the UK. It had a loyal customer base with around 1.2 million British shoppers who bought from us online, and for our relaunch we have managed to secure many of the products they liked the most.
“In addition to this, we have developed a new specially designed online platform for our UK business so we are not inheriting any legacy systems, and we were able to recruit the majority of people who worked on the profitable online and international operations of BHS before it went into administration.
“So although we are starting again in the UK, we have a number of advantages over a typical start-up. We are nimble and efficient, but with a great brand, strong customer base and a proven and dedicated team.”
