Two-store retail business Cookes Furniture has announced that its latest charity event raised over £1,000.

Cookes Furniture played host to an afternoon tea event in Sutton Coldfield to help support a breast cancer charity, Breast Friends – which marked its 20th anniversary by raising more than £1,300 on 8 September 2016.

The event, which took place at Cookes in-store Edward’s Restaurant, proved to be a raging success as tickets sold out within days from going on sale, and featured live music to accompany the champagne afternoon tea.

Vanessa Hoe, marketing director at Cookes Furniture, said: “Over the years we have always enjoyed supporting local charities like Breast Friends. We were delighted to help them mark their 20th anniversary celebrations, which made the fundraising event even more special.

“Tickets for the afternoon tea completely sold out and we were so delighted by the fantastic turnout. We never expected to raise £1,300 so that was simply the cherry on top of a brilliant morning with Breast Friends.”

Breast Friends is a support group based at Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and is run by volunteers who have all been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Cookes was established in 1946 and continues to operate its two stores in Erdington, near Birmingham, and Christchurch, Dorset.
