A new £20 million expansion of the Elliott’s Field Shopping Park in Rugby has welcomed furniture retailers DFS, Oak Furniture Land, Sofology and Tapi as the first to sign up.

DFS and Dwell will occupy 15,000 sq ft; Oak Furniture Land and Sofology have each taken 10,000 sq ft; and Tapi will have an 8,000 sq ft store.

Thomas Cochrane, development manager at site owners Hammerson, said in a statement: “We are pleased to announce the first batch of new stores for the extended Elliott’s Field. We are seeing significant interest in the remaining units, which is a reflection not only of the strength of the first phase and the growth of Rugby, but also tangible occupier confidence and the resilience of the market in the face of Brexit.

“We know that people who live in Rugby currently make most of their homeware purchases outside the borough. At Elliott’s Field, we are helping drive growth in Rugby by addressing this gap in the market and responding to customer demand for greater choice. These popular and successful brands will enable Rugby residents to make some of their big purchases for the home without travelling so far.”

The second development phase is set to increase the catchment of Elliott’s Field from 900,000 to 1.06m people. The shops are scheduled to open in time for Christmas trading.
