Furniture sales boost home performance despite John Lewis reporting a lacklustre week.
According to the retailer’s latest weekly sales figures to 24 September 2016, total sales suffered a decline of 4.7% at £81.9m as the ‘unseasonably warm weather’ impacted against a strong week last year.
John Lewis did however see some light within its performance, as Home sales grew 2.1% on last year, with the earlier opening of its Christmas Shop in Oxford Street providing a boost of 28% compared to the same period last year.
Furniture also had a good week up 9.4%, with customers continuing to shop for John Lewis’ new Autumn/Winter ranges.
Within the other sectors, both Electrical and Home Technology and Fashion sales were down by 5.5% and 9.1% respectively.
Looking ahead to this week, John Lewis confirmed it would open in Chelmsford on Thursday 29 September, which will be its first ever shop in Essex.
