Long-serving independent retailer Glasswells has announced the winners from its latest competition in celebration of its 70th anniversary.

Bury St Edmonds-based Glasswells, which has been established since 1946, has launched a series of special events to mark its impressive milestone, culminating with two voucher giveaways worth £7,000.

The competition, which ran from March to July earlier this year, asked customers to answer its question, ‘Glasswells opened 70 years ago, which celebrity was also born in 1946: Shirley Bassey, Stephen Fry or Joanna Lumley?’

Glasswells unveiled the correct answer, being Joanna Lumley, and announced the two winners, Julie Sharp from its Bury St Edmonds store and Paul Reading from its Ipswich store, who both won a £3,500 instore gift card.

Commenting on collecting his voucher, Paul said: “Winning the first prize was incredibly exciting. Glasswells is a wonderful shop and it will be a lot of fun deciding what to buy with our prize. It’s also lovely to be able to share it with our daughters who are both setting up their own homes.”
