Multi-channel retailer John Lewis has reported a ‘challenging’ week for its Home sector as sales slipped into negative territory.
According to its latest weekly sales figures to 15 October 2016, total sales grew by 8.5% at £90.6m, as cooler weather sent customers into autumn buying mode.
John Lewis Home category was the only sector to not hit positive numbers and experienced a fall in sales by 0.5%, ending a strong run of week-on-week furniture sales. Despite the lacklustre performance, lighting saw improved sales of 6.4% as darker evenings sparked an influx in light products.
Within the other categories, fashion and electrical & home technology posted a boost in sales of 7.7% and 19.5% respectively.
