Furniture retail brand JYSK has confirmed it is ‘investigating’ whether to open a new site in North Lincolnshire.

The Danish company is considering taking up a unit on Skippingdale Retail Park in Scunthorpe, which was formerly a Poundstretcher store.

According to local sources, JYSK had originally made plans to take up premises but has since postponed proposals.

However, JYSK communications & CSR director, Rune Pedersen confirmed that plans to open in the area are still afoot, stating: “I can confirm that we have been investigating opportunities to open a store in Scunthorpe, but we have not yet made any final decision on the issues.”

If the move goes ahead it would bring JYSK’s UK presence up to 16, following its latest opening in Dewsbury, which officially launched on 8 October 2016 on Railway Street.

Founded in 1979 by Lars Larsen in the Danish city of Aarhus, JYSK has more than 2,300 stores in 41 different countries, and first entered the UK market back in 2008.
