With less than three weeks to go until the opening of the 2016 NBF Bed Show, Cabinet Maker takes one final look at what makes the event such an important date in the bed industry’s calendar.
If there’s one thing that the UK can be depended upon over the summer months, far more than the weather, it is that our diaries will suddenly become chock-a-block full of wedding celebrations. Yes, whether or not you yourself have any plans to tie the knot, you’re almost assured to have finished a number of weekends this summer with pockets full of confetti, hats you never plan to wear again and a small number of dance floor injuries.
Of course, now we are in September, and the nights are drawing in, we may begin to feel that certain emptiness that comes from weekends without any plans to hear two people say ‘I do’. Fortunate for those in the bed industry, then, that another important event, designed to bring people together from far and wide, is now just weeks away. If you have yet to RSVP for your place at the NBF Bed Show, what are you waiting for?
Firmly established in the trade’s calendar as the UK’s biggest bed exhibition, the National Bed Federation’s (NBF) annual Bed Show is back for a seventh year and is bigger and better than ever. Set in the heart of central England at the modern, purpose-built Telford International Centre, the Bed Show is the place to be for everything and everyone to do with beds with an unprecedented gathering of UK British bed manufacturers and suppliers under one roof.
The venue has always been a big hit with exhibitors and visitors alike, as Nick Gigg, national sales manager at Swanglen Furnishings, commented following last year’s show: “Telford is a perfect venue that attracts a large amount of the industry’s successful retailers and buyers. With the NBF bed show, both suppliers and retailers benefit from a dedicated bed exhibition that avoids being diluted by other industry sectors. Without doubt, the 2015 bed show was the most rewarding exhibition in Swanglen’s history and we look forward to returning in 2016.”
What to expect
Taking place on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 September, at the Telford International Centre, it will play host to some of the biggest and best bed brands – many of whom don’t exhibit anywhere else.
Only NBF members can exhibit at the show - which means visitors placing orders are investing in and supporting British manufacturing and British made products. Since the introduction of the independently audited Code of Practice, buyers can buy with confidence knowing all the exhibitors are meeting their legal obligations and supplying products that are safe, clean and honest.
Once again the Bed Show boasts three packed halls with a raft of established favourites such as Breasley Consumer Products, Sweet Dreams and Hypnos as well as the groups - Silentnight, Simmons and Steinhoff. This year the show also welcomes back returning names Carpenter, Millbrook Beds and Vita Cellular Foam.
As Zahid Ayub, Highgate Beds’ sales director, told us:
“The Bed Show is always a good opportunity for us to bring out our new products because its solely for beds and organised by the NBF, and having nothing else but beds means you know every visitor is there with the sole purpose of seeing beds. I have to give it to the NBF, they do a good job, we’ve attended every show since we became members.”
NBF Bed Industry Awards
The coveted NBF Industry Awards will be announced on the 20 September at the Bed Show Gala Dinner, hosted by comedian, Marcus Brigstocke. Now in their sixth year, the awards have become a pinnacle of excellence in the industry and celebrate the most successful bed manufacturers, suppliers and retailers. With a bumper crop of entries, the independent judging panel will have a tough time to pick a winner in each of the categories.
The format of the awards remains the same but this year there has been some changes to the categories. Bed Manufacturer of the Year and Bed Component Supplier of the Year categories will continue but instead of Multiple Bed Retailer and Independent Bed Retailer, there will be Bed Retailer of the Year which will be split into two awards – those with a beds turnover of over £5m and those with a beds turnover of less than £5m. And new for this year is the Judges Choice Award.
The NBF is delighted to confirm that the refreshments for this year’s Bed Show have been generously sponsored once again. NBF members John Cotton, one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of synthetic and natural material, and BekaertDeslee, the world’s leading mattress fabric supplier, have kindly agreed to help provide free visitor and exhibitor refreshments respectively.
“Thanks to John Cotton and BekaertDeslee it means both exhibitors and visitors will receive a refreshment voucher to put towards drinks and something to eat,” said Jessica Alexander, executive director of the NBF.
