Multi-channel retailer John Lewis has reported a ‘steady’ week with ‘big ticket’ items performing well, in particular with furniture.
According to its latest weekly sales figures to 17 September 2016, total sales grew by 0.9% at £79.4m on last year.
Within the Home sector, overall sales also saw a steady growth of 0.7%, with furniture growth up by 13%, as upholstery sales surged by 21% due to its new Autumn/Winter ranges.
John Lewis also reported a strong sales growth of 9.9% in Electrical & Home Technology, although suffering a decline of -8% in its fashion category.
Christine Kasoulis, buying director, Home, John Lewis said: “In a week which saw unseasonably hot weather, John Lewis sales were steady on last year.
“Home had sales of +0.7% on the year with ‘big ticket’ items performing well, with furniture up +13%. We are also seeing our new hit the mark with customers and upholstery was +21% year-on-year as shoppers spruced up their homes for the new season.”
