Dundee-based furniture manufacturer JTC has opted to reduce working hours to a four-day week in an attempt to secure the future of over 300 jobs at the business, reports The Evening Telegraph.
Speaking to the local newspaper, managing director David Rand admitted the move was necessary to stave off the threat of redundancies amongst staff, although predicted a positive future for the firm after a difficult period.
“It’s true there was a threat to some posts but that has now been lifted and there is now no threat of redundancies,” he said.
“Business has gone quiet over the past two or three weeks and we have taken the decision to reduce working hours.
“There is a lot of work in the pipeline, however, and I fully expect us to be back up to speed very soon.
“I want staff to know what is happening so they do not worry.”
Operating from manufacturing sites located at Camperdown Works and Manhattan Works within Scotland’s fourth largest city, JTC specialises in the production of kitchen, bedroom and bathroom furniture.
