Dewsbury-based manufacturer The Shire Bed Company has continued expanding its factory bringing the total figure of investment to almost £2.5m this year.

The company has increased its facility by a further 60,000sq ft – adding to its previous site increase of 17,000sq ft – bringing the overall size of the operation to over 100,000sq ft.

The family-run business has been at its current location since 2001 and has already invested nearly £750,000 to expand and restructure its site, creating 20 new jobs.

Other investments this year have included over £100,000 in the purchase machinery and two new DAF delivery vehicles.

Fara Butt, marketing director, The Shire Bed Company said: “It’s been a really busy year. With the initial stage of the expansion now complete the extra space has allowed us to restructure and begin production of the new Roll and Rest collection.

“Purchase of the new site means we can continue to grow the business, giving us the opportunity to develop and enhance our portfolio, providing our customers with a more comprehensive range of products.”

The company, which produces the Shire collection, the Eco Shire, Active Shire and the Contract Shire, is to launch the Roll and Rest collection at the Bed Show in September.
