Multichannel retailer John Lewis has reported another strong week with the wedding season and summer trends driving sales.
According to its latest weekly sales figures to 16 July, total sales were up by 3.8% to £83.1m on last year. Home sales grew 1.8%, while its outdoor living category was the ‘star performer’, as sales rose 46.6%.
Elsewhere within its sectors, fashion registered an uptick of 8.7%, while electricals and home technology saw sales rise by 0.9%.
Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, said: “Customers were getting into the swing of summer last week, with evidence that spending time outside and preparing for the height of wedding season were the top trends driving sales.
“Home sales were +1.8% and the wedding guest theme could also be seen here, with Gift Wrap sales soaring +135.5%. Outdoor Living was the other star performer, finishing the week at +46.6%, demonstrating customers’ intent to capitalise on the improving weather forecast ahead of last weekend.”
