Multichannel retailer John Lewis has posted a negative week for products within its Home category as warmer weather turns customers away from big ticket purchases.

According to its latest weekly sales figures to 30 July 2016, total sales within John Lewis’ Home sector were down by 7.2% on last year.

Despite the lacklustre performance within the category, John Lewis maintained an overall sales growth of 3.4% to £76.6m compared to the same period in 2015.

Although the warmer weather had detrimental effects on Home – including furniture, Home Accessories and Gifts saw a rise in sales by 3%, while Outdoor Living posted a huge uptick by 41.5%.

Within the other categories, Electricals and Home Technology reported a ‘good’ week with sales up by 10.5%, while Fashion saw also experienced an increase, up by 7.9%.
