Homewares value chain Wilko has confirmed the appointment of former Argos executive Anthony Houghton as its new retail director following the announcement of Robin Lassiter’s retirement.

Anthony Houghton, who moves from his post of retail stores director at Argos, will replace Robin after a four month handover period, with Robin officially set to retire from the business in June 2017.

Confirming his retirement, Robin said: “It’s a great business with great people. I’ve really enjoyed my time here and ten years has gone very fast.”

Wilko also confirmed that it has recently opened its 389th store on Queen Street in Cardiff, whilst revealing plans to launch up to 100 new stores over the next five years.

A Wilko spokesperson said in a statement: “We have a strong ambition to open up to 100 new stores over the next five years and London is one of our key acquisition areas.”
